Our Story

The Creation of RTWBC

The Ready To Work Business Collaborative (RTWBC), founded by a collective of Fortune 500 companies, is a business-led nonprofit organization that is committed to leveraging ROI through successful hiring and retention best practices targeted at ready to work talent: the long-term unemployed, the underemployed, people with disabilities, veterans, and opportunity youth. RTWBC accomplishes this mission through collaboration, thought leadership, and services that support employers who desire to reduce worker shortages by building more sustainable talent piplines. This initiative evolved out of a 2014 White House Call to Action signed by 350 employers to address the issue of long-term unemployment.

Galvanized by the 2014 White House Call, senior HR professionals from a core group of the employers collaborated and took action. Partnering with Deloitte and The Rockefeller Foundation, they conducted a series of convenings to build a collective that would result in actionable steps that generate inclusive hiring practices and solve the skills gap. In 2015, the group formed the Ready To Work Business Collaborative Advisory Board.

The corporations and employers that signed the Call to Action and have committed to RTWBC’s mission are prepared to hire up-skilled and re-skilled ready to work talent, deepen their connections with the local community, lower recruitment costs, and achieve corporate social responsibility goals.
The Ready To Work Business Collaborative is leading the way by connecting employers with workforce intermediaries, as well as colleges and universities, creating best practices for hiring, and advocating for policies that benefit the long-term-unemployed. RTWBC regularly hosts both in-person and online convenings for employers to share best practices and learn from success stories.

Since its inception, RTWBC has been building collaborative partnerships and engaging with employers to enhance hiring solutions and expand workforce options for Ready to Work Talent. With pioneering success stories evidencing the impact of our efforts, we look forward to continued dynamic engagement with partners in developing workforce talent solutions.
